Questions

Twelve answers, in writing

Do you take my insurance?

We are not in network with any plan: you pay for each session yourself, and we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses. We do not take Medicare or AHCCCS.

What is a superbill and how do I use it?

It is a monthly receipt with the dates, the type of session and a diagnosis code. You send it to your plan, and your plan decides whether to reimburse part of the cost, which you cannot know in advance.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you begin. We give you one before your first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

How much does it cost and how do fees work?

The fee depends on the kind of session and its length, and your fee is given in writing before you start. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open. It is all explained on the fees page.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes, we take HSA and FSA cards at the end of each session. Your plan decides which expenses it covers; ask it whether therapy counts.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Lupe explains how she works, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and she listens. You choose the language. At the end, the two of you decide whether to continue.

How often and how long?

Lupe sets the pace with you. We do not promise a number of sessions: it depends on what you want to work on and how you feel. Each session lasts 50 minutes.

Are you licensed where I live?

Lupe's license is from Arizona. By video she sees people who are in Arizona during the session. If you are in another state, we help you look for someone licensed there.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you share stays in the session. The law sets limits: if there is a serious risk that someone will be hurt or will hurt someone else, or if abuse of a child or an older adult is suspected, Lupe may have to report it. She explains this in writing before you begin.

Do you see my teenage daughter?

No: Lupe sees adults only. If you are looking for someone for a minor, we give you colleagues' names.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for 24 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment. With less notice, the session fee may be charged; we explain this in writing before you start.
